The practical difference#
Standard is the routine lane for normal publishing. It is suited to evergreen posts, ordinary product updates, and pages whose value will not change if processing takes longer.
Priority uses the faster Priority workflow for a URL that is genuinely time-sensitive.
Both lanes submit a request; neither controls Google’s crawl schedule, indexing decision, or ranking. Keep submission progress, technical eligibility, and search visibility as separate measurements.
When Standard is the right fit#
- Evergreen articles and routine page updates.
- New products without a fixed launch deadline.
- Large batches where cost and consistency matter more than minute-by-minute speed.
- URLs that are already well linked and included in the XML sitemap.
Standard should be the default lane for most publishing teams. It uses one shared Indexing unit per URL and keeps routine work predictable.
When Priority earns its place#
- A time-sensitive announcement or campaign landing page.
- A corrected URL replacing a harmful or materially wrong result.
- A product launch, availability change, or seasonal page with a short useful window.
- A high-value page whose faster submission has measurable business value.
In Regular, Priority uses 20 shared Indexing units per URL. Before using it, run the technical preflight.
Faster delivery cannot repair a noindex directive, server error, blocked response, or canonical pointing elsewhere.
A simple decision rule#
Ask: “Would a slower submission materially reduce the value of this page?” If no, use Standard. If yes, verify the page, use Priority, and monitor the request without treating it as an indexing promise.
