Choose the destinations that deserve search visibility
Prioritise products and collections with stable URLs, useful copy, availability information, clear images, and a distinct search purpose. Not every filter or variation needs an indexable URL.
Control variants and filters
Use consistent canonicals for equivalent variants and prevent low-value faceted combinations from multiplying crawlable destinations. Internal links and sitemaps should reinforce the preferred versions.
Handle unavailable products deliberately
Keep a temporarily unavailable product live when it remains useful and is likely to return. Redirect permanently discontinued products only when a close replacement genuinely satisfies the same intent.
Publish, check, then monitor
Run a preflight after clearing caches, submit the preferred URL, and monitor technical readiness separately from search visibility. Review canonical URL fundamentals before changing product templates.
